The seed for the idea behind a true Bayou Aquatic was planted during conversations with Tobin Fetters. I’ve always enjoyed his outdoor shaves and respected his ability to pick up the natural scents and atmosphere that I love trying to capture in fragrance. Nezpique is my attempt to bring that vision to life.

Nezpique is a Southern aquatic leaning, woody fougère, inspired by the back waters and shaded cypress lines of South Louisiana. Built around a semi blue-water atmosphere, it blends fresh cypress, bright neroli, humid green woods, smoky palo santo, blue lotus, soft Spanish moss, cool damp earth, and smooth masculine depth into a scent that feels fresh, clean, earthy, and refined without leaning tropical or salty. Rather than a bright beach aquatic, Nezpique captures the darker side of Louisiana water country — calm black bayou water, cool morning air, moss-covered timber, and the quiet atmospheric depth of the South.

Nezpique is named after Bayou Nezpique in southwestern Louisiana, part of the Mermentau (“mur-MON-taw”) River basin flowing through Evangeline, Acadia, Allen, and Jefferson Davis parishes. Deeply tied to rice farming, crawfish ponds, fishing camps, duck hunting, and Cajun outdoor culture, the bayou winds through black water, cypress trees, marsh grass, and heavy morning fog that define this part of Louisiana.

The name traces back to the Atakapa-Ishak people who once lived along the bayou. Early French settlers later referred to them as “Nez Piqué,” or “tattooed nose,” in reference to their facial markings and traditions.

Nezpique was built around memories of early mornings on the water before sunrise — running trout lines for catfish with my boys, cold air rolling across the bayou, the sound of water moving through the cypress, and the quiet calm that only exists before the world wakes up. It carries the spirit of duck hunts at first light, old boats cutting through dark water, green cypress lines, and the deep outdoors of South Louisiana.

The artwork itself was inspired by an old photograph of my oldest son and nephew — my ride-or-die hunting and fishing buddies. The image captures the kind of memories this scent was built around: long mornings outdoors, cold air, boat rides through the bayou, and the kind of good times you never forget.

Scent Notes- Bergamot mandarin, neroli, violet leaf, black currant, pink pepper, cardamom, blue lotus, cypress, palo santo, patchouli, cedarwood, oakmoss, vetiver, ambergris, wet earth, and clean musk.
