Created in collaboration with Drew Kaplan, Marine veteran and friend, Defending Liberty was built to honor a milestone few generations ever witness, the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.

This release was never meant to chase trends or ride hype. It was built around respect: for the men who stood their ground, the generations that followed, and the enduring idea of liberty itself.

The name says it plainly, Defending Liberty.
Not just something remembered from the past, but something that still carries weight today.

The Scent

Defending Liberty was designed to feel bold, grounded, and enduring. Bright bergamot and peach give the opening a sharp edge before black pepper, bourbon, vanilla, and amber begin to warm the scent and pull it deeper. Tobacco, smoke, cedarwood, and musk settle underneath, creating a smooth finish with depth, warmth, and character.

The result is warm, slightly sweet, smoky, and refined, a scent with presence without becoming overpowering.

Every so often you meet people who just get it.

The bowl came first: Brousseau & Dov’s Stars & Stripes. I stumbled on it right when Eric and I started talking 250. Nothing else would do. Once the concept and timeline locked in, I reached out to David via Instagram. Didn’t take much convincing. He understood immediately. He didn’t serve, but he worked with for veterans and gets what “Defending Liberty” actually means — it’s also passing down heirloom pieces like his bowl, or timeless artwork like the one front and center on it. History and Liberty worth defending.

The razor was trickier. It had to match the gold bands on the B&D bowl, carry the same timeless design, and be American made. Plenty of great razors there. I could’ve pulled one from my own collection, but none had the look. Could've asked for a custom, but I wanted it to be available. And it had to be efficient — because some mornings you get three minutes to shit, shave, and shower. I’d totally forgotten about the Timeless TRBR78 since it’s been sold out forever. Reached out anyway. They didn’t need much of a pitch. Received a quick “thank you for your service” and “sounds like it’d be easier to ship it to Eric.” Next thing we knew, a carefully packaged, immaculately machined razor showed up. A thing of beauty.

The brush brought it home: Opus Brushworks. Craig liked the idea from the start, but most of what I sent was too detailed for his blank size. He tweaked the design and talked me into engraved letters and artwork over black fill — cleaner, more heirloom. I still like the black fill better, but it didn’t look heirloom. He was right. So was I. He also convinced me a Manchurian knot was the right call. You know, for the presidential touch. And he understood “Defending Liberty” without me explaining it. He implemented “We The People” on the back of the brush himself.

Our dealings with all three crews were the same: mutual respect, obsess over the details, make something that lasts. The 250 isn’t just a razor, bowl, and brush. It’s a nod to ritual, to liberty, and to the good people who keep both sharp.
