Still open. Still warm. Of The Cajun Blade, there was nothing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFor seven nights, something beneath the swamp knocked against the bottoms of boats. Three slow blows. Then a scratching that followed them all the way to shore. Men pulled their boats onto dry ground and woke to find wet handprints underneath.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eDeep in the mire, the Voodoo Yeti carried a small doll bound with black thread. Its cloth was stained with the blood of those it had taken. Their last breaths stayed trapped inside it, whispering through a mouth sewn shut.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAfter the Blood Moon, one voice remained awake.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe Yeti first felt it while feeding. Its right hand stopped inches from a man’s throat. One finger bent backward. Then another. Somewhere against its chest, a stitch snapped.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIt tore the doll loose and drove a bone needle through its heart.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFar beneath the water, something laughed.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe doll turned its head.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThrough the split seam of its mouth came the scrape of steel across a strop. The Yeti heard it again the following night. And the next. Each time, the sound lasted longer.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIt buried the doll beneath a churchyard. By morning, it was hanging from the Yeti’s neck again, trailing fresh roots. It burned it in a hollow stump. The little face blackened, but the threads survived.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThen the threads began to tighten.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThey worked beneath the Yeti’s hide, drawing its shoulders back, lifting its arms. It clawed at them until its fingers split. The doll watched.
